Finding Refuge In The Name of The Lord

The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination. Proverbs 18:10-11

There are many names that can become our sources of refuge, sometimes unconsciously. It is possible for a man to pray and fast or seek the help of God, yet still trust in his education, skills, networks or net-worth. Many human strategies or systems that worked before could easily become hinderances to our faith in God. Military might, administrative excellence or human prowess could give a false sense of security. But a time is coming and has now come when there will be a distinction between those who trust in horses and chariots and those who trust in the name of the Lord our God.

The first step to trusting in the name of the Lord is surrendering your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. If you are a believer, you must accept your limitation and fully depend on God’s strength. Without God, no man knows the future, whatever may have brought you this far may not take you further. (Ecclesiastes 8:7). To affirm or reaffirm your trust in the name of the Lord, let Psalm 20:6-7 become your practice:

“Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but I trust in the name of the Lord my God.”
