The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? Proverbs 18:14
Many people underestimate the power of their own spirits. Ecclesiastes 8:8 says that “No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death…” in other words, the spirit is a vital component of life. The bible deliberately does not say that “No man has power to retain the body” because the spiritual realm controls the physical. When you gave your life to Christ, your spirit man was saved. Every time you hear the word of God, you build up faith and strength in the inner man. Since the natural man cannot receive the things of God, the flesh tends to agree with facts, but the bible says; the faith in your spirit is able to sustain the sickness in your body. If your spirit man says no, it won’t kill you!

That said, there is another dimension where a man’s spirit does not just sustain his sickness but brings him into total and complete healing. This happens when the spirit of man becomes ONE with the Spirit of God. According to Romans 8:11, if the same Spirit that rose Jesus from the dead dwells in you, it is able to quicken (give life) to your mortal body.
Have you ever played a sermon and slept in the process, then suddenly woke up in the middle of the night just to hear the right words from the preacher that spoke to you? While your body was asleep, your spirit man was receiving the word of God, and at the right moment the Holy Spirit woke you up just to hear the word. If the Holy Spirit can cause your body to act or respond in a certain way, that same Spirit is able to heal, restore and give you life!
